A Great Day in Los Angeles, LAFC Facing Elimination and More
NWSL, MLS Cup, More Dodgers and 22+ headlines from West Coast Sports this week
Friday was a great day in Los Angeles. Some of us stayed at home working but many folks took to Dodger Stadium and the Streets to celebrate.
Salute to the fans who waited for hours on the street. That is how you do a parade, especially after waiting for another one after 40 years. If you opted to go to the Stadium, I ain’t mad at you considering the 2020 parade never occurred.
I’m not a Dodgers fan but it was a great site given all the divisiveness going on at the moment. There’s no better feeling than seeing Los Angeles come together, regardless of traffic or social economic status.
Otherwise, the MLS Cup is the biggest West Coast sports event right now. The Seattle Sounders advanced in their series after another shootout victory over the Dynamo.
LAFC will play the final game in their open series on Friday, after they lost last week’s Game Two to the Vancouver Whitecaps. That match kicks off at 7:30 PM.
The Los Angeles Galaxy also advanced to the next round with a sweep over Colorado last week. Galaxy forward Gabriel Pec was named the 2024 MLS Newcomer of the Year this week too.
On the Women’s front, the NWSL postseason begins this week. The Portland Thorns snagged a spot by routing Angel City. They will take on Gotham FC on Sunday. Upstart Bay Area FC will face the Washington Spirit in their postseason match on Sunday too.
