A's Jokes Continue, A New Knight and Nobody is Safe
NHL Trade Deadline, the Vegas Baseball Stadium, NBA Mental Health, Cuts in the NFL and more sports news from the West Coast this week
Phoenix was beautiful for Spring Training last week. Here’s the best news from the West Coast this week.
The A’s Stadium Situation
Folks compared the A’s new stadium to the Sydney Opera house. Apparently, the renderings dropped before they wanted too.
It’s still undecided where the A’s will play while the 33,000 seat arena is built. The Athletics still need additional funding to complete the move.
Front Office reported that the design also leaves out many critical elements of any MLB facility such as:
Bullpens
Infrastructure for air conditioning
Luxury suites
New Giants third basemen Matt Chapman also took a jab at his former team.
THE REAL QUESTION: Would hitter even want to play under that huge video board?
NFL Cap Casualties
The NFL Salary Cap went up an unprecedented $30 million for 2024. However, that did not save players from getting their walking papers.
Seattle made the biggest moves by cutting both their starting safeties. Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs were supposed to constitute the Legend of Boom 2.0.
Seattle decided to go in another direction. They also let go of tight end Will Dissly, even with TE Noah Fant slated to hit the open market. Here’s some more moves from the week:
Knights Add Anthony Mantha
Las Vegas made one of the biggest moves ahead of the NHL trade deadline. The defending Stanley Cup champions were in need of a top-six winger, and that need was met on Monday.
Mantha has been a standout forward for the Capitals this season, racking up 34 points in 56 games. With his size and skill, he will be a valuable addition to the Golden Knights' middle six. At 29 years old, he is in the final year of a $5.7 million annual contract.
This season marks the third time in his career that he has hit the 20-goal mark. The Capitals will cover half of his remaining salary as he joins Vegas.
