Warriors and Knights Cooked in Five, Carr's Last Ride and More West Coast Sports News
30+ Pacific time zone sports stories from the week of May 16, 2025
The Golden State Warriors and Vegas Golden Knights both went home fishing this week.
Las Vegas fell to Edmonton in a Game 5 OT match on Thursday. The Oilers advance to the Stanley Cup’s Final Four after defeating both the Kings and Knights.
Golden State fell to the Timberwolves on the same night, although in a much less competitive series and final game. The loss was not surprising given the Warriors’ injuries. Minnesota heads to the Western Conference Finals after defeating both the Lakers and Warriors.
ALL WE GOT LEFT TO ROOT FOR: Knicks guard Deion Wright (California) and forward MarJon Beauchamp (Washington), Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon (California) and guard Russell Westbrook (California), Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein (Oregon), and Pacers guard Quenton Jackson (California).
Maybe it was just my algorithm, but Derek Carr retired and the entire world remember all the quarterbacks with ties to the Central Valley of California.
Fresno State, Jon Gruden, his first coach with the Raiders, Marcel Reece, and his big bro all sent well wishes. Of course, Carr shouted out the team that drafted him in his official statement.
Either way, Carr’s retirement spurned all of social media to remind folks that Derek Carr, Colin Kaepernick, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, Tom Flores and Cody Kessler are all from the same part of California. And yes I knew Trent Dilfer went to Fresno State too.
